Welcome to Historical Statistics of the United States (Millennium Edition Online)
Launched in 2006, this is the fourth edition of Historical Statistics of the United States (HSUS). The U.S. Bureau of the Census published previous editions in 1949, 1960, and 1975.
In 2026, Cambridge University Press agreed to license the Millennium Edition to the Economic History Association, removing all authentication and login requirements from the site and making the content openly available to all site visitors – including downloadable tables.
Using HSUS:
- To browse material in this database, choose from an option listed in the Table of Contents (left), which will take you to introductory pages, downloadable tables and essays.
- Click on the arrows on the left-hand side of the Table of Contents to open the sub-menus.
- For more detailed instructions, see the Help pages and FAQ.
Please note that HSUS is no longer being updated and, to ensure the long-term stability of the platform, dynamic features, including ‘search’, ‘save’ and ‘favourites’, have been removed.
