Search Results

Search results are organized into two categories:

Index Term Matches – These results include matching tables and essays referenced in the index of the printed volumes; therefore, they appear higher in the results.

Other Matches by Relevance – These results appear lower in the relevancy ranking because the search keyword is simply matched against the text in the table or essay, with no context taken into account as with the Index Term Matches.

You can customize the display of the search results pages to make it easier to find what you're looking for: you might want your results sorted by title rather than by relevance, for example, or you might want to see more than ten search results per page.

To reorganize the search results:

  1. Select the number of results displayed in a page from the Results per page menu that appears above your search results in the right pane (This can be either 10, 25, 50 or All results).

  2. Use the Sort by drop-down menu to sort the results by Relevance, Title, or Type.

  3. Navigate through the result pages, using the page links.

Relevancy ranking of search results:

When you enter a single search term or multiple search terms, the search engine starts searching for exact matches in various sections of essays and tables in the following order.

  1. Title

  2. Header

  3. Body

  4. Documentation and Notes

  5. Full Documentation

The search results are ranked based on the occurrence of the search term in the above sections, in the specified order. The essays and tables containing similarly rooted words in the Full Documentation appear lower in the relevancy ranking.

In the case of multi-term search, search results are ordered according to how closely the search terms are positioned in the Title and Header sections.
